My paternal origins are from Assergi, Provincia L'Aquila. I have also know this as "Campo Imperatore," a fortified town at the foot of the Gran Sasso. My great-grandfather, Angelo Faccia, supposedly emigrated to the US in the late 1880's, traveled the American West, was attacked by Indians & survived, made it to California, and for reasons unknown, went back to Italy on a sailing ship. His daughter Maria (Marietta) married my grandfather, Angelo Scarcia, who came to the US in the late 20's ahead of his family. He 1st settled in Oakfield (NY?) then on to Philadelphia and finally on to Peekskill, New York. In 1932, he sent for my grandmother and 2 sons, Sante and Angelo, Jr. (my father). I've always been facinated about the "stories" of the "old country," so I'd like to know of anyone who may know of the origins of my family, family name or of the history of our family home, Assergi. I am particularly interested in learning of the origins of my name, SCARCIA. I have heard it pronounced in many ways. Someone h La storia della famaglia (Scarcia, Faccia & Giampaolo) also the History of Assergi

The family of my father's father comes from Furci, Chieti province, Abruzzo. My wife and I visited Furci, as well as Vasto, Sulmona and other parts of Abruzzo, in 1995. We found numerous people in Furci--a village of only about 1100 people--with the name Colamarino, but none related to my grandfather, Mariano, who left for Argentina, then for Amer- ica, around the turn of the century. At any rate, we greatly enjoyed the old world character of Abruzzo and its natural beauty. We look forward to returning in the future.

My grandfather, Giuseppe D'Antonio, and grandmother, Mary Celli, migrated to the USA sometime between 1900 and 1918 via Ellis Island. I believe that our family name was D'Antonio or DiAntonio and know that we are from the Abruzzo Region. I am very interested in hearing from anyone familar with either family name and possibly contacts in Italy. I currently live in Delaware, USA. I am hoping to attain some family information so that I can begin an earnest geneology search. Please contact me via eMail. Thanks.
